This project contains illustrations of my fantasy story I came up with recently. I wanted to treat this project as if it was a real book so I illustrated a cover for it, designed characters and made a storyboard for visualisation of own text
This is characters that somehow involved in the story. From left to right: Ancient Spirits, Old Woman, Shepherd, Sheep, Son, his Mother and Mother Nature
The story begins with a young Shepherd who notices that one Sheep strayed from the flock walking along the river. He follows the Sheep and finds themselves in front of snow-covered plains where the river begins. They meet a mysterious Old Woman and the Shepherd asks her about this place then she silently invites them to follow her. As they come to her yurt she kindles a fire and regales Shepherd with tea and Sheep with dried herbs. The Old Woman tells the Shepherd about this place with a song of her tin whistle. As she plays, the flames shift and dance, forming images that weave a tale:
The song fades, and with it the fire. As the Shepherd and Old Woman drink tea, he sorrowfully asks if she lives alone. In response, she begins another melody, telling her personal story:
As the Old Woman finishes her song, the Shepherd suddenly realises — his Sheep is her Son. Smiling, he takes up the flute and plays a lullaby. The Old Woman and the Sheep fall asleep, and soon he as well. The next morning, the Shepherd bids farewell to the Sheep and Old Woman. And in gratitude, she gives the Shepherd one of her magical stones. He promises that someday he will come back to visit them again
“On this land far beyond the silent mountains begins the river that nourishes many lands. It's a magical place but it's hard to enter without magical artifacts — such as the Old Woman’s staff and mask — because of Ancient Spirits lurking at the entrance, preying on travellers”
“Long ago, she discovered snowy land with her little Son. They decided to stay there and built a yurt together. They lived without sorrow until the boy suddenly fell ill. One night, Mother Nature took the boy and said that one day he will return home in a new form but the entrance must be guarded against Ancient Spirits, so her Son could find his way home safely. After those words the tears of Mother Nature fell to the ground, they turned into enchanted stones”
This is design of Old Woman's yurt she lives in and the items she uses daily
